Hillside golf Club was founded in 1911, taking its name from its location at Hillside Farm. It is thought that 1912 saw the first full season for the club, though the first definitive evidence is a membership card from the season April 1913 to 1914.

The first major change to the course took place in 1923 when new land was leased from the Weld Blundell estate to construct a new 18 hole course.

The most radical change to the course was started in 1956 with the appointment of Fred Hawtree as course architect. His plans were finally realised in 1967 with the opening of the new improved course.
