Stewardship & Sustainability

At Hillside, we believe that world-class golf and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Our sustainability strategy focuses on preserving our unique landscape, fostering local wildlife, and investing in green technology to ensure our course thrives for generations to come.

Wildlife & Habitat Preservation

We are actively introducing natural habitats across the course to support biodiversity. Our grounds are a haven for local wildlife, and we are proud to foster environments that encourage wild deer and protect our population of native red squirrels. By allowing specific areas to return to their natural state, we are creating a thriving ecosystem alongside our fairways.

Green Technology & Maintenance

To maintain our pristine course conditions while lowering our carbon footprint, we have transitioned to advanced electric maintenance equipment. Our fleet now includes Toro electric machines and Husqvarna robotic mowers. These units not only drastically reduce emissions but also operate quietly, ensuring that the tranquility of the game—and the surrounding nature—is never disturbed.

Reducing Single-Use Plastics

Our commitment extends beyond the course and into the clubhouse. We are phasing out single-use plastics in favour of sustainable alternatives. This includes our new range of reusable metal water bottles, available in the Pro Shop, designed to keep players hydrated while ensuring our environmental footprint remains as light as possible.

Renewable Energy & Solar Power

We are committed to powering our future with clean, sustainable energy. A key part of our long-term strategy is the installation of solar panels across our facilities. By harnessing renewable energy, we aim to significantly reduce our reliance on the grid, lowering our carbon footprint while ensuring a self-sufficient and sustainable power supply for our operations.

Clubhouse & Sourcing Initiatives

  • Bamboo Alternatives: Since 2021, we have partnered with The Cheeky Panda to replace standard paper products with sustainable bamboo alternatives. This includes straws, tissues, and toilet rolls throughout the club—one of our very first active steps towards a greener operation.

  • Reusable Cup Scheme: In March 2025, we successfully rolled out reusable cups for all members and guests. This initiative has drastically reduced our reliance on disposable cups, encouraging a culture of reuse rather than waste.

  • Homemade Shortbread: We have moved away from individually wrapped commercial biscuits. By baking our own shortbread in-house, we not only offer a fresher product but also eliminate thousands of single-use plastic wrappers from entering our waste stream every year.
